When it was reported that Donatella Versace's most recent men's collection was inspired by Barack Obama, Donatella was quick to correct the press. Obama himself didn't inspire her, but rather "the type of man Barack Obama represents." However designers showing at Paris Fashion Week conveyed no such reserves about using their runway shows to blatantly support Barack. Sonia Rykiel's spring 2009 collection included sweaters that read "I have a dream" and "Obama."

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac put Barack's grinning face on a dress paired with gloves that read "yes" and "no" — probably his way of saying "rock the vote." And at the end of her program notes, Stella McCartney wrote, “P.S. Vote Obama!!”

So I was invited to attend the Atlanta Ballet for the red carpet premiere of "BIG" starring Big Boi of Outkast. I couldn't resist this chance and of course Layla k. can never turn down a red carpet appearance. The show was quite interesting and innovative I must say. It really was a full on production with lights flashing, image projection, and ballerinas in huge couturish tu-tus swinging back and forth from the ceiling. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I was impressed. I am not going to go into details because this is one of those things that you have to see for yourself. On the other hand, I'd have to say that Janelle Monet stole the whole damn show.

I mean, once she left the stage, I was done. I was ready to go. I saw everything that I needed to see. She is a PERFORMER!!!!! If you don't know who she is, you should! She has a cult following in Atlanta and is now signed to Bad Boy.....and to top it all off....she was on the red carpet in a tu-tu. How appropriate :)

During Wednesday’s launch of her new fragrance, Fabulosity, it was a rare light-hearted moment for Kimora Lee Simmons, who was mourning the recent death of her 18-year-old dog, Zoe. She took to the podium at the press junket behind schedule not looking like herself and explained the delay due to a death in the family.

She shared with People magazine:

“You have to … grieve,” she said. “It’s okay to take time and say this meant something to my life and [to] honor it.”

In fact, in typical Kimora style, she may find a way to honor Zoe with bling.

“There is a company that makes diamonds out of your loved ones,” she said. “[They] make diamonds from a little of the carbon from the ash, so I might do that. I might turn her into a diamond.”

Paris, France - If you didn't know, I am announcing the premature death of the legendary former supermodel, Katoucha.

Born Katoucha Niane and internationally known simply as Katoucha, the former model and fashion designer’s body was found on the morning of February 28th in the Seine River at the upper part of the Garigliano bridge, which links the 15th and 16th arrondissements of the city together.

According to all accounts, Katoucha’s death was accidental. She had gone out for a night on the town on Friday, February 1st. The next morning, her handbag was found near the houseboat where she lived, prompting many to think that she had slipped in her stilettos and fell over into the Seine near the Pont Alexandre III. In the bag, her Visa card and mobile phone were found. Also, the eyeglasses of the near-sighted model were also found with the other items.

The 47 year old supermodel was born in Guinea and was one of the first international black stars in the industry and the first African born woman to achieve the ranks of supermodel.

Katoucha became a living legend around the planet as perhaps the greatest runway model that the world had ever known. During her career, she walked the runway for every major designer, but was most associated as the muse for international powerhouses Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Lacroix and Thierry Mugler.

In November 2007, she began promoting her autobiography titled, Dans Ma Chair (trans: In My Skin) in which she vigorously spoke out as a victim of female circumcision.

Briefing you on: The 2008 MAGIC Convention. In a mean-girl mood so bear with me.....

My feet are still recouperating man!!!! The taxi's are too damn expensive and they drive like maniacs! On a positive note, I went alongside Vera Mitchell of She's Got Style Boutique this year. All in all we found that most companies overcharge for cheap quality and then they can't even meet their minimums when you make an order anyway. We met a few Australian designers and discovered new and interesting lines, such as Pepsi, who now has a sexy denim line. Doubt I'd wear it, but it was cute for a soda :)

Of course celebrities flocked to promote themselves and party like hell. It's Vegas baby!!! Paris Hilton was there course. Here she is leaving the Doll House Booth:

We didn't make it to the 40/40 Club, but I bet I know who did...Beyonce was there promoting her clothing line, Dereon....

Eve showed up to represent her Fetish clothing line, although she hadn't even seen it until she got to the booth. That ish was WACK and when we went in, there were less than 40 outfits and one rep all by her lonesome. No buyers, just Veronica and I chuckling at the cheap fabrics and high price point. Hell I didn't even know the line still existed.

Ladies!!!!!!!!!!! I'm Baaaaaaaaaack!!!!!

So Elizabeth Arden was kind enough to send me a care package of goodies and of course I used all of it. I mean why not? I also got perfume, mascara, lip gloss, bronzer and so much more. While I was at the Magic Convention, the wind decided to go "hurricane" on us and my skin tends to dry out in that type of weather. I was so proud of myself because I hate to use moisturizers AND liquid foundation. For the sake of trying something new, I tried the SPF 15 foundation and OMG I loved the moisturizer even more. It smells so good and my skin was super soft.

The concealer turned out to be better than the one I was using actually. After Haute.lanta Fashion Week, my skin looked a mess from the stress and strain of such a fabulous affair. Wink Wink. I needed something that would even out my fair skin tone and it worked. Now I am not a big makeup buff, I stick to clothes, but this is '08 ladies. It is my job to stay fantabulous. I am now hooked on the moisturizer and concealer for sure. Want to see what I looked like before and after? Fabulous either way...uh hello.

So I tried Queen Latifah's The Covergirl Queen Collection, which was created for women of color to match the shades of our skin without masking our natural beauty. This is fabulous because I have to mix mine to match my skintone. The foundation looks lightweight and creamy, but I was unable to try it due to my extremely fair skin. I did use the volume mascara this weekend and my lashes really looked cute. Because I wear individual and strip lashes often, I don't have much of my own anymore. This mascara did the duty, but I don't know about 5 times the volume. The packaging is pretty though.

I am definitey loving the copper bliss lipgloss. I don't wear a lot of makeup unless I have a show, but I MUST have lashes and gloss even if I am grocery shopping. It's not sticky and it has a subtle sparkle and kissable shine...and oh yes I am going to wear this gloss everyday. MUAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Betsey Johnson is one of my favorite designers. I call her "Miss Cartwheel" lol. Anyway, to enter into her New York Penthouse is to enter a world in which her imagination-as usual-runs wild. One enters through an aluminum front door resembling that of a spaceship, and lands inside the two-story penthouse.

The loft’s walls are painted a pure white (once a chrome yellow in their previous incarnation), and the floors are stained dark. Minimalist pieces such as a stark platform bed from Ligne Roset, sleek industrial cabinets with glass doors and lined in antique lace in the kitchen, and a set of classic 1960s dining chairs with curvy basket backs complete the intriguing look.

Her bedroom is “an explosion of pink,” with pink painted walls and a bright-pink embroidered silk quilt from Coco de Mer in London, a shagpile rug in a matching shade, and vases with artificial roses.

As a rose-tinted spectacle, Hollywood-style sofas and a couple of George Nelson glass-topped benches, designed in the 1940s and used as a coffee table, adorn the living room. Her mid-century pieces have been removed from storage, and include an original Womb Chair and stool by Eero Saarinen, a dark wood dining table with clean lines and Warren Platner chairs softened by a swirly botanical rug.

So my bestfriend is getting married next year and I am sooo excited. I love weddings, except for the fact that I get jealous and say, "Awww I want to get married too" I want the wedding and the massive wedding ring, not the husband to be clear. Kelly Wearstler’s new 325-square-foot space on Bergdorf Goodman’s seventh floor holds just 75 items — “pretty things that are pretty unusual,” Ms. Wearstler, the Los Angeles-based designer, said — each made in very limited (5- or 10-piece) quantities exclusively for Bergdorf Goodman. And when they’re gone, they’re gone, she said. It’s a very fashion-seasonal attitude from a very fashionable designer, best known for decorating the Viceroy hotel in Santa Monica and the Tides in South Beach.

At Bergdorf Goodman, Ms. Wearstler, above, displays her first housewares collection in rows of silver-leafed alcoves. 1,500 Mile Runway: Great Wall Of China Fendi Show

In a magnificent display of lights, models and of course, amazing clothes, Fendi presented its new collection in a fashion show on the Great Wall of China.

Making an appearance on the makeshift runway, right when the last rays of light were welcoming the guests, models in luxurious clothes took to the catwalk.

This is the first time such an event has taken place on the Great Wall. After one year of negotiations, paperwork and millions of dollars from Fendi’s pocket, it finally happend.

Fendi’s luxe collection looked even greater set in such an exquisite setting. Atmospheric lighting, great music, beautiful models, and most importantly, a perfect cut.

Despite the volume in this collection, Fendi showed accentuated waists which remind women of their femininity. Black and red were the foundational colors chosen by Karl Lagerfeld. To the delight of the guests, the colors matched perfectly with the white floors on the runway.

LONDON (AFP) - To their high society owners, a pair of haute couture shoes can be a precious thing.

But to guard a 62,000 pound (120,000 dollar) pair of ruby- sapphire- and diamond-encrusted Rene Caovilla sandals at their London launch, retailer Harrods went to extreme lengths: bringing in a live Egyptian cobra to patrol the shoe counter.
Whether hiring a poisonous snake is, strictly speaking, the most effective means of guarding precious footwear might be a moot point with security experts. But it makes for a pretty effective photo opportunity.

A spokeswoman for Harrods admitted that the cobra had been hired strictly for Monday's launch of the shoe collection.

"The snake has now been returned to its owner," she said.
So no need to fear snake bites at the shoe counter, then. "Not unless you're a burglar," the spokeswoman said.

Soooooooooooooo. I went to hang with the "BOYS" this weekend and OMG, it was quite interesting. Never in my life have I been in the midst of over 10,000 gay males. I mean the hour long dance off was enough, but when I saw the chic or woMAN dressed in a blue dress with a matching blue wig....in ponytails...oh and by the way one breast was out with a pastie. WTF! Outrageous.

I must say, they sure know how to kick it. This party took place during Gay Pride weekend and apprently every gay Black male in America, no literally, was in Atlanta and at this event, which took place inside a 55,000 square foot venue.

To top it all off, I was like the drag queen idol of the night. Of course I was completely overdressed because the new "gay" thing is HOMO-THUG so there weren't very many "sugar-fairies" in the house. More like gay gangstas with gold grills, iced out chains, baggy jeans, and timberlands. To see one Lil Jon looking dude grinding on the dance floor with a TI looking dude, made me throw up in my mouth a bit! I said to myself, I must go home and call my "baby-daddy" and propose because there are no real straight men in Atlanta.

Gwen Stefani Sues FOREVER 21!

Gwen Stefani has filed a lawsuit against retail chain Forever 21, The Daily has learned. The Grammy Award-winning singer contests that Forever 21 has allegedly stolen designs from both her highly successful L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers lines. A spokeswoman for Paul Wilmot, who represents Stefani¢s clothing line, confirmed the status of the lawsuit but declined further comment pending approval from her legal team. "We feel that both our L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers designs have been infringed upon by Forever 21 and we plan to vigorously protect our intellectual property," Stefani's spokeswoman said. A representative for Forever 21 was unavailable for comment. Stay tuned.

Stefani¢s lawsuit against Forever 21 isn¢t the embattled mass retailer¢s first such incident. This past March, Diane von Furstenberg Studio filed a lawsuit against Forever 21 Retail Inc. claiming copyright infringement on its "Cerisier" and "Aubrey" designs. In January, M.M.P. Inc., which conducts business as Fabric & Fabric, sued Forever 21 over fabric copyright issues. Hmm I saw an interesting video on CNN today regarding adolescent models. The British now have an expert panel that calls for teen models to be banned from the British catwalks. They say being thin is too much pressure for a young girl and it leads to anorexia and such. TRUE!

They are looking to ban models 16 and younger, so pretty soon we will not see them in London Fashion Week anymore. Their philosphy is you can't use children to sell women's clothes anymore.

So I went to D. Woods' birthday party last night. There were like three celebrities there and one of them was me. lol.....BUT I landed an interview with some tv show. Who really cares about the name, let's talk about the host (Sunny aka Sun of New York)...CUTE!!!! and my publicist says she thinks he was feelin' Layla k. a lil bit. Who knows? Anyway, D Woods wants to model in Haute.Lanta Fashion Week and she also said something about Danity Kane performing. Her PR hit me up so I'll keep all of you Danity Kane fans posted.

Left there to go to an invitation only event inside the Louis Vuitton store in Buckhead...after the mall was closed. It was quite interesting and now that I know what the party was for, it is all making sense now. It was yet another record release party for my future ex husband TI. Oh oops he brought Tiny and she is Tiny and yes she really does look like that. His ass was the only celebrity that had security, hell Jermaine Dupree had on so much ice and him and Big Boi were just chillin. As my asst. would say, TI was being so overcompensatory! Especially since it was like 90 degrees yesterday and he had on a velvet blazor. WTF. I still love you TI!

The director from BET's Black Carpet would not interview me, but when she interviewed Ovie from the Falcons, she requested that I grace the viewers with the ultimate "Doll Face Killah" experience..Okay okay so I was asked to stand there and be eye candy. lol. Hmmt! I got a few photo ops though: Atlanta Peach and the Sunday Paper.

I was at least able to chat it up with the GM of Louis Vuitton, an editor from Upscale Magazine, Jazze Phae, Don Carlos (aka Sugar Tongue Slim),Giant from SOHH, the program director for 95.5. Saw a few familiar faces including my old friend Yancey from Oakland who recently moved here to work for Atlantic Records. I met a hyphy white boy who is former A&R for Capitol. He was crazy!

My new "Billy Holiday" hairdo brought lots of attention. My publicist says I can't go anywhere without that "do" A car full of guys rolled past, then stopped, and backed up to say, "Hey girl, let me see your hair!" Ughhh

Barneys New York Sold for $825 Million

Barneys New York, the 84-year-old luxury department store chain famous for its clever window displays and cutting-edge designer goods, was sold for $825 million on Friday, June 22, to Istithmar, a private equity and alternative investment house established three years ago and is owned by the government of Dubai.

Jones Apparel Group bought Barneys in 2004 for $397.3 million. They subsequently opened new flagship stores in Dallas and Boston with a Seattle store opening this week and a San Francicsco store scheduled to open September 2007.

Jones Apparel also expanded the Co-op store branch of the business, a smaller scale store specializing in up-and-coming designer labels such as 3.1 Philip Lim and diffusion lines like Marc by Marc Jacobs.

"This transaction further enhances our ability to develop our brand and grow our business," said Howard Socol, president and CEO of Barneys in a statement. "Working with Istithmar, we look forward to continued expansion of our flagship, CO-OP and outlet concepts to help us realize the considerable untapped potential of the Barneys brand."

Under the terms of the agreement with Istithmar, Jones Apparel could still entertain a higher bid from a third party until July 22.

Originally, the entire group, which includes brands such as Jones New York, Nine West, Anne Klein, Evan-Picone, Easy Spirit, Enzo Angiolini and Gloria Vanderbuilt among others, was up for sale.

With the sale of Barneys to an international investor such as Istithmar – they have spent in excess of $1.6 billion of capital towards over 30 companies in the three years since its inception – expansion to Europe and the Middle East seems a likely next step.

Founded in 1923, Barneys started as a small discount men's store on 17th Street in New York City.

Ten years after his tragic death, Gianni Versace is getting a street named after him in Milan.

Milan’s Mayor Letizia Brichetto-Arnaboldi Moratti and the Teatro della Scala will stage a series of special events next month to pay tribute to Versace on the 10th anniversary of his death.

The high point of the commemoration will be the debut of Maurice Bejart a new ballet entitled, ‘Grazie Gianni con Amore’- ‘Thank You Gianni With Love’ – to be staged in La Scala on Sunday July 15.

The two-act ballet will feature costumes exclusively designed by Donatella Versace in its first act. The second act will be a medley of Bejart’s most celebrated ballets for which Gianni created costumes. Also on July 15th, the City of Milan will honour Gianni Versace’s memory by naming a public square after him. And a Gala dinner will be staged in his honor after the ballet performance in Milan’s Sala delle Cariatidi at Palazzo Reale.

Versace's work for the theatre, one of his greatest passions, will also be honoured by the city of Milan with a display 64 artistic installations of his most celebrated theatre designs on large panels distributed throughout the city in strategic locations.

Versace was murdered by disturbed fan Andrew Cunanan outside his home in Miami, Casa Casuarina on July 15, 1997.

Roberto Cavalli @ H&M

Roberto Cavalli is the latest name to add his creative prowess to the H&M designer stable. It was announced Wednesday that the Italian designer will construct a one-off collection for the retail store giant that will consist of both mens and womenswear.

Known for his wild animal prints and non-conservative cuts, Cavalli is the first Italian to join the ranks of former H&M collaborators which include Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Viktor and Rolf. Material girl Madonna added some musical creativity when she designed clothes and accessories for the Swedish brand earlier this year.

There were no details on what sort of look Cavalli would aim for in his collaboration with H&M, but one could expect heavy use of color and print if the 66-year-old designer follows in step with his iconic look. Publicity photos of Cavalli working on the collection show sketches that include high-waist pants, cowboy boots and a snakeskin print.

"Roberto Cavalli has created a world of his own, iconic and full of fantasy, when it comes to colors, prints and style," said H&M creative director Margareta van den Bosch in a statement. "There is no place for shyness and no possibility of ending up with a mainstream wardrobe of everyday basics."

The bold-faced celebrities who defy mainstream and opt for Cavalli's provocative designs include Eve, Beyonce, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, and even the usually conservative Gwyneth Paltrow. The collection, which will include 20 menswear pieces, 25 womenswear items, lingerie and accessories, will be available on November 8th.

Paris Hilton was released from a Los Angeles County jail early Thursday because of an unspecified medical problem and will fulfill the remainder of her sentence for probation violation in home confinement, a sheriff's spokesman said.

The 26-year-old hotel heiress was sent home shortly after 2 a.m. wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

She ended up spending three full days at the all-women's facility in Lynwood, but because she checked in late Sunday and left early Thursday, authorities credited her with five days of time served. She was housed in the "special needs" unit of the
13-year-old jail, separate from most of its 2,200 inmates. The unit contains 12
two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates. She didn't have a cellmate.

When Hilton was sentenced May 4, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled she would not be allowed any work release, furloughs or use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail, but because of her so called 'medical condition' that no one actually will talk about....She'll be confined to her Hollywood Hills home for 40 days. What a drag! Hmmmm.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Lindsay Lohan was cited for investigation of driving under the influence Saturday and was slightly injured when the troubled actress' convertible struck a curb, police said. Lohan, 20, and two other people were in her 2005 Mercedes SL-65 when it crashed on Sunset Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. Officers at the scene found a "usable amount" of a drug tentatively identified as cocaine. They declined to say where the drug was found other than to say Lohan was not carrying it. HMMT!

Lohan said in January that she had checked into a rehabilitation center for alcohol treatment. Her publicist confirmed in December that the actress was attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. IMG is attempting to take over every market. If you type in Olympus Fashion Week, it is no longer a separate website from Mercedes Benz in LA. They are now one and the same. IMG also recently took over Miami Fashion Week, but have completely avoided Atlanta, which I am currently planning Haute.Lanta Fashion Week. I am sure they will try to buy me out once it becomes the success I know it will become.

Fashion Week Berlin has lined up a string of local heavy hitters, including Hugo Boss, Puma and Michalsky, plus Britian's Vivienne Westwood for the launch of its new fashion season.

Entitled Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin, the twice-yearly season makes its debut this summer, scheduled from July 12 to 15 in the German capital.

The brainchild of IMG Fashion, Fashion Week Berlin’s catwalk shows will be staged in a custom-built space before the backdrop of the Brandenburg Gate, the sight of ecstatic scenes back in 1989 when the Berlin Wall fell.

Germany’s leading designer brand Hugo Boss will kick off the new season on the opening day with a runway show of the spring-summer 2008 collection of its edgier Hugo line.

In something of a coup, Vivienne Westwood will present her Anglomania collection. Westwood is a habitué of Berlin; she was until last year a professor in the city’s leading fashion school, UDK.

Also joining the calendar is Michalsky, the urban sportswear collection designed by Michael Michalsky, the former creative director of adidas, the debut of the Rudolf Dassler by Puma collection and eccentric local brand Sisi Wasabi.

The season will also showcase five emerging, young designers on Sunday, July 15. The five - C.Neeon, Kaviar Gauche, Talkingmeanstrouble., Macqua and Lala Berlin – will compete for a New Generation Award, sponsored by Kardstadt-Quelle, Germany’s leading department store chain which will then retail the winner’s collection.

“Berlin, with its unparalleled energy and creativity, will provide a strong foundation for this new fashion initiative, which will appropriately combine international brands that appeal to the city’s spirit with local and up and coming designers,” commented Fern Mallis, Vice President of IMG Fashion in New York.

According to TV.com, Sex and the City creator Darren Star is back to New York in this new dramedy pilot, about four female executives, friends since college, who support one another through the trials and tribulations of work, family, and everything else life in New York City throws at them.

The Break-Up Peyton Reed is going to direct this drama pilot. Maid in Manhattan writer Kevin Wade wrote the pilot and will executive produce alongside Star, Gail Katz and Star's producing partner Suzie Fitzgerald.

Kitchen Confidential's Bonnie Sommerville is set to join Ugly Betty's Lucy Liu, War of the Worlds Miranda Otto and The Importance of Being Earnest Frances O'Connor as the main four successful female executives on this drama series. Bonnie will play Caitlin Dowd, a senior VP for a cosmetic giant. Otto was originally cast as the cosmetics giant but has moved to a different part, Juliet Draper, the COO of a hotel chain. Meanwhile, Lucy Liu was booked as Dylan Mason, one of the quartet. Charmed Julian Ovenden will play Eric Burden, the husband of Zoe Burden played by Frances O'Connor. O'Connor's character is a top investment banker who is struggling to balance her roles as mother, wife and Wall Street whiz.
