The BIZ on Lil Fizz

Ok people, I get so many messages on myspace from young fashionistas and fashionistes who would like advice, mentorship, and tips on how to get into the industry. I figured I should add a section to my blog so that I can just refer people here. Now on to this Lil Fizz situation:

Last Thursday I was hired to style Fizz for a press event to take place in NYC this weekend, May 5th. According to his mgmt I was being hired on an interim basis and they wanted to see how much "JUICE" I had before hiring me on a long term basis at $2500 a week. Their idea of me having "JUICE" was to see if I could obtain a rack full of designer clothes (in a week) WITHOUT the following:

A professional pull letter on letterhead with sufficient contact info
A corporate credit card
Flight and Travel Accomodations to NYC
My "Confirmation and Agreement"
Media kit and event info

Now...tell me how the hell am I supposed to go to a high end boutique or to Bloomingdales with a pull letter that lacks the company logo, address, and contact?...and even if I had a professional letter, they weren't going to give me a credit card so who would the stores bill the "pull fees" to, which is usually 25% of the total? The purpose of the card is insurance, DUH! How the hell am I supposed to style someone and I would not even be in his physical presence? How the hellx10!?

They wanted to me send all of the items to NYC in a box. Meaning the garments would leave my possession and I would have to cross my fingers and hope that they make it back to me in perfect condition..if they make it back. WTF! Only the clothes that were "for keeps" were leaving my hands...period! About four days of drama and twelve clothing lines later, I cancelled with all of my contacts and sent over a nice little letter on my company letterhead, with the logo, with my contact info etc. My resignation letter was more professional than their pull letter. lol

It's ashamed that this dude just signed a major deal with Sony and his mgmt team can't even secure a budget for me to style him. I don't even think thay understand the business of fashion styling! The more I thought about it, the more it seemed suspicious. I couldn't put my reputation on the line so I pulled out just in time. I will keep all of you updated. Thanks to my own hustle and some really good fashion friends as well as Lucius Blaq, Miskeen, Storm watches, J Dubb @ Five Four, LRG and many more! Below is a photo of a couple of the lines I was to receive apparel from: Yes those are Prada tennis shoes!

MORAL: Industry people are hella unprofessional! Make sure the paperwork is in order! Good luck Lil Flip...I mean Lil Fizz. Who are you anyway. PAY ME!
